Tamayo Family Vineyards

Tamayo Family VineyardsIn the heart of the Contra Costa Wine country in California, the Tamayo Family Vineyards thrive. Located an hour’s drive southeast of the Napa Valley, this area known as “the Other Coast” was once home to dozens of California’s earliest vineyards and wineries at the turn of the previous century. Initially planted by Portuguese and Italian immigrants, this lush and fertile soil stands shoulder to shoulder with the best appellations in the state.

Following in those hallowed footsteps, the Tamayo vineyard has been planted with European varietals that have been tended with the utmost care, experience and dedication. CANA─the flagship Tamayo wine─is an extraordinary red blend crafted from eight different varietals to perfectly express the uniqueness of the local terroir and the artful hand and vision of winemaker Jon Engleskirger. These varietals include Petite Syrah, Syrah, Mourvèdre, Malbec, Carigagne, Alicante Bouschet, Tinta Cao and Viognier.

Manager Mark Enlow─who is involved in the winemaking process literally from grape to glass─invites those enjoying CANA to look for hints of cocoa, rich blackberry, toffee, and more, leading into a deep, satisfying finish that lingers beautifully. This superb wine─perfect for the most special of occasions─savors like wines costing far more than CANA’s surprisingly reasonable $30 price point.

In addition to producing “2009 World Wine Championships Gold Winner” CANA from their Contra Costa County estate, Tamayo offers a range of other varietal selections from the best appellations in California, all reflecting their unique origins. These classic varietal wines grown in Napa, Sonoma and Monterey counties─found under the Tamayo Family Vineyards label─include the Tamayo 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley, the Syrah 2006 Contra Costa County, the Pinot Noir 2006 Santa Lucia Highlands, and the Tamayo Red 2008.

Co. Co. County Wine Company─located at 633 First Street in Historic Downtown Brentwood, CA 94513─is also a tasting room for many Tamayo selections like the CANA, Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, and Tamayo Red. Learn more at www.tamayofamilyvineyards.com or call (925) 513-VINE (8463)
